MILWAUKEE (WITI) — The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hosting a free vaccine clinic on Saturday, August 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for residents of an especially low-income area of Milwaukee – one that also has no veterinary clinic in the entire zip code.

Free rabies and distemper/parvo shots will be provided for dogs and cats from the 53206 zip code at Franklin Square Playground, on Teutonia between Clarke Street and Center Street.  WHS expects a turnout of 400-500 animals.

The vaccine clinic is part of a program, “Pets for Life,” a partnership with the Humane Society of the United States and PetSmart Charities®.  Pets for Life offers hundreds of free spay/neuter surgeries to households in 53206, a zip code with one of the highest poverty rates in Milwaukee, a high rate of stray and impounded animals, and no veterinary clinic in the entire zip code.

The goal of Pets for Life is to improve the quality of life for the community by extending the reach of animal services, resources, and information to under-served areas. Only residents who live in the 53206 qualify for the program.
